64 killed in Myanmar on Armed Forces Day


At least 64 people were killed as security forces shot on protest in Myanmar on Saturday (March 27), according to Reuters.


The incident took place on the day when the ruling junta’s leader said the military would protect the people and strive for democracy.


Myanmar army is celebrating Armed Forces Day on Saturday. Security forces in Mandalay and other towns including Yangon, told protesters that they would be shot in the head and back if they did not return home.


“Today is a day of shame for the armed forces,” Dr. Sasa, a spokesman for CRPH, an anti-junta group set up by deposed lawmakers, told an online forum.


According to local media reports, security forces fired indiscriminately on protesters in Dala suburb of Yangon. Three people were killed in a protest in the Insein district of Myanmar’s biggest city Yangon. Four died in the eastern city of Lashio. There were also four separate incidents in Bago, near Yangon.
