17-km traffic jam on Dhaka-Tangail highway
Thousands of vehicles have remained stuck on Dhaka-Tangail highway due to long tailbacks from early Friday, causing immense and untold sufferings to passengers, specially the cattle traders.
The highway is witnessing a 17-kilometre traffic jam from Bangabandhu Bridge to Pouli in Kalihati.
The gridlock has caused mainly because of rush of vehicles as people are leaving the capital Dhaka ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
In-Charge of Elenga highway police outpost Yasir Arafat confirmed the news.
He said vehicular movement came to a grinding halt from early Friday causing the long tailback.
He also said law enforcers along with the highway police are trying to bring the situation under control.
