PM nods lockdown extension until May 23

The government has extended the ongoing lockdown for another week starting May 17 to May 23 to prevent the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already given approval to it.

“The ongoing lockdown has been extended for another bout to control the reckless movement of people set to return to the capital after the celebration of Eid with their family members. A gazette notification will be issued today, Sunday (May 16),” confirmed State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain on the night of Saturday (May 15).

He said that the prior restrictions will be in place in the extended lockdown.

Earlier on May 3, the government extended the countrywide lockdown until May 16.
