Mirza Fakhrul demands suspension of officials involved in harassment of Rozina

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today demanded the suspension and arrest of officials involved in the harassment of Prothom Alo's Senior Reporter Rozina Islam, who was arrested on Monday in a case filed under the Official Secrets Act, 1923.

He came up with the demand at a view-exchange meeting today held at the office of Thakurgaon district BNP.

"We have seen how senior officials are harassing a journalist at the Secretariat. This is unbelievable. This is not acceptable at all. Transferring those officials is not a solution. They should have been fired immediately," he said.

"Not only that, they should have been sued and eventually should have been jailed for their actions," he added.

Claiming that free journalism is not possible in the existing situation of the country, Fakhrul said the incident of Rozina proved that there is no freedom of press in the country now.
