Indian govt accepts recommendation of vaccination 3 months after Covid-19 recovery

The Indian government today accepted a recommendation from a committee of experts, allowing Covid-19 patients to receive vaccines three months after recovery.

The government also accepted the recommendation of the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 (NEGVAC) allowing all new mothers to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

However, a decision has been deferred regarding Covid-19 vaccination for pregnant women. "The matter is under discussion and further deliberation by the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI)," an official statement said.

There is no requirement for screening of the vaccine recipients by Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) before Covid-19 vaccination, the statement said.

Another NEGVAC recommendation accepted by the government is that vaccination of those who develop Covid-19 infection before their second dose should defer getting a second jab for three months after clinical recovery from the illness.

The government also said persons with any other serious general illness requiring hospitalization or ICU care should also wait for 4-8 weeks before getting the Covid-19 vaccine.

It said an individual can donate blood after 14 days of either receiving the Covid-19 vaccine or testing RT-PCR negative.
