Banks to remain closed during lockdown


 

All banks will remain closed from April 14 to April 21 during the countrywide lockdown to control spread of coronavirus. At this time, besides the bank branch, all the sub-branches of the bank providing financial services, booth banking, agent banking services will also be closed. 


However, all online services including ATM and internet banking will be open all the time.

 

Bangladesh Bank issued a circular in this regard on Monday. 


The circular said the bank authorities will take measures about keeping open of their branches, sub-branches or booths located at the different air, sea and land ports (ports and customs as area) in consultation with the port and customs authorities.


“For the sake of providing banking services, the banks can keep open such branches and authorised dealer (AD) designated branches open as per requirements and operate the head offices with limited manpower during the period," said the circular. 


Bangladesh Bank also asked the banks to take necessary measures to ensure adequate cash at ATM booths and internet banking service for the sake of all time transactions through ATM and cards during the period between April 14 and 21.


The government has imposed a eight-day strict lockdown from April 14-21 to check spread of deadly coronavirus.


The shopping malls and markets across the country will remain closed during this period. Kitchen markets and grocery shops will remain open from 9am to 3pm in open places maintaining the health guidelines.


All government, semi-government and private organisations will remain closed during the lockdown and all employees must take position at their work stations. But emergency services like airport, seaport, riverport offices will remain open.
