‘Dacoit’ killed in Satkhira ‘gunfight’

A suspected dacoit has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Satkhira.

The gunfight took place on Thursday midnight at Damarpota area of the sadar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Zakir Hossain, 40, son of Kawsar Ali, at Matiadanga village.

Md Mizanur Rahman, inspector of Satkhira Zila Police, said police arrested Zakir two days earlier and as per his confessional statement, police conducted a drive along with him in the area to recover arms.

As soon as the police team reached there, associates of Zakir fired at police, forcing them to fire back in self defence that triggered a gunfight, he said.

Police recovered Zakir’s body from the spot and sent it to Satkhira Sadar Hospital morgue, he added.

There were 13 cases, including that of Abdur Rashid murder, against Zakir.
