Nipah virus kills 5 of a family in Thakurgaon
Five members of a family have died from Nipah encephalitis in Thakurgaon, Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) said.
A press release signed by IEDCR Director Professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora confirmed the matter on Sunday.
Nipah virus spreads via unfiltered date juice contaminated by bats, and then is transmitted via interpersonal contact.
The IEDCR strongly urged people not to drink date juice before it is treated. Besides, the organization also advised health workers to use gloves and masks.
